A liberal is caught in the pincers of a particular dilemma, the choice between supporting security and resisting police militarization and the view of citizens as the “enemy.” I joke that the reason the conservatives haven’t gone after the Police Unions is because they’re not only armed, they often show their willingness to use their deadly toys.
Interesting, as well, that we’re convinced to walk a razor’s edge between support and suspicion. As well we should. Too little power and they can’t do their job. Too much power and they get out of hand.
What is it? Is it that they’re poorly trained? Natural bullies given guns and badges?
And then there’s this.
